5516.5 Muli Printer Setup Instructions

These instructions are relevant to a Printer directly connected to the workstation accessing the Muli Linux Accounting Software.

1. To setup a Windows printer on Windows 2000 onwards you need to know the machine id on the network. Either the name or IP address.

   How do you find your computer name??

   1. Select the start button

   2. Put the Cursor over the My Computer option.

   3. Right Click and select Properties

   4. Select the Computer Name Tab.

   You should also coordinate the printer share name with Muli.

2. Next on your workstation you must install Print Services for Unix.
   To do this:

   1. open your Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel).

   2. Double-Click the Add/Remove programs Icon.

   3. Next click on Add/Remove Windows Components on the left side of the window.

   4. Scroll down to Other Network File and Print Services,

   5. check the box to select it. Click Next, and Windows will install the service.

3. Next, configure the service to start at boot.

   1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

   2. Under Services and Applications, click on Services.

   3. Scroll down to TCP/IP Print Server, and double-click on it.

   4. Change Startup type to Automatic if it is not already.

   5. Start the service if it is Stopped.

4. Now share any printer that is to be printed to from Linux/Unix (With the appropriate share name) that you want to be able to remote print to.

   1. To do this, click on Start -> Settings -> Printers,

   2. and right-click on the printer to be shared if it is not already

   3. and select Sharing (the hand icon underneath tells you it's shared).

   4. Select Shared as: and type the name of the printer as you want it

   5. to appear to the systems it's sharing to.

   6. Click OK and your printer isready to be printed to from Unix.

5. Set up the remote printer on your Unix system, using the share name you specified as the queue name, and your computer dns name or ip address.

   Remember to inform Muli of the Computer Name, the printers shared name ( Coordinate this in advance is always good) the type and model of the printer, and coordinate the testing of the printer with Muli.
