5507.1 Role of backup & Restore

  1. The primary objective is to ensure that all business transactions recorded in Muli can be accessed in the future.

  2. The secondary issue is the time the company can be off air while the restoration is being achieved.

    Figure 1 outlines a fully configured Muli system, this provides a number of levels of redundancy / Backup

    1. The primary backup is copying data to a local removable drive / medium on a daily basis.

    2. Primary redundancy is the creation of 2 Servers with load sharing in normal operations. Thus either could run everything at a pinch.

    3. Secondary redundancy is the establishment of a remote (Geographically separated) backup server.

      This remote backup server may be ;

      1. Updated daily or

      2. Updated on a transaction basis

    4. Do not forget the need to maintain historical copies as data file may be corrupted and this may take a time to become evident.

      A perfect copy of corrupted data is not much use.
